SIBERIA, GIGANTIC LACHRYMATORY

 Siberia, gigantic lachrymatory
gigantic ossuary
of a starved age
dreams of stretching out
all the way to the beginning
of some enchanting years
upon the soil of Europe
over our sarcophagi
so that she find a drop
of diaphanous time
a presence without reverse,
so that she put an end
to the dialogue of one —,
her lips shrivelled from frost
and thirst upon a red spot.

COME TO US, JESUS CHRIST

 Come to us, Jesus Christ,
we who are faltering with wickedness
and hatred, break our bones so we may see
with our own eyes how we can weep,
perhaps we will be transfigured
in a dream, in angular years like approaching
rocks. Come, heal our bread,
our greed. Are we destined to be
only beginnings of chimpanzees?

THE SYSTEM

 In Moldovlahia the system (Providence)
has completed the process of zombification
each individual carries the providential plague
yet always enveloped in his own shroud
he carries back all the accumulated evil
like in the binary system 0 1 negative positive,
the officials protected as if in a bowl of unbreakable
glass study the roads to the grave,
armed with a GPS. If these people disappear
from history it is nothing. The system
is one and the same with a slaughterhouse.
Providence suggests that this is man's fatum.

REFLECTION (Cioran's solution...)

At Emil Cioran's solution to the existence — that it would be advisable to resolve it through suicide, and the sooner the better — the Romanians wrinkled up their noses saying, "If they want this, let the gypsies and other foreigners do it. We don't commit suicide for the sake of an opinion.”

REFLECTION (Nietzsche's idea...)

Friedrich Nietzsche’s idea of will and power, issued by a weak-minded cripple, holds true only until the possessor of that will catches a cold or some more serious illness. What the hell are you supposed to do with your will then?

THE RACES

 The races, a noise lost
behind some obscure doors
the races shove shit and atomic
bombs into each other’s
mouths and kiss on the shore
of fatigue, a seashell. The races
do not forgive, they refine the sand
the hatred of this mind-blowing love
the races appeal to reason
and never on their knees
do they kiss each other's penises.
The concrete hears them
with their emaciated gods.

WHAT GLORY, MR. DIRECTOR ?

Genital pride –, to hell with the rays
of art. Artists are just snotty brats who
are no longer needed. Primitive nature
reprocesses itself. What glory,
Mr. Director? The poor, helpless,
paralyzed poet, and his merchandise
is not selling.

ANALYSIS OF A NEW DRAWING BY LIVIU NEAGOE

This portrait by Liviu Neagoe continues his exploration of reduction and introspection through minimal line and color. The composition is pared down to essentials: a face tilted slightly, framed by dark hair, with only the lips rendered in warm orange.

🎨 Formal and Symbolic Analysis

  • Line and Structure: The contour is delicate yet decisive. The face’s outline and features are drawn with sparse, confident strokes, evoking both fragility and precision. The tilt of the head introduces a quiet asymmetry, suggesting contemplation or vulnerability.

  • Color and Contrast: The stark black hair against the white background creates a strong visual anchor, while the orange lips act as a focal point—an isolated spark of emotion amid restraint. This limited palette heightens the psychological tension between silence and expression.

  • Expression and Mood: The eyes, simplified and slightly distant, convey introspection rather than engagement. The absence of background or adornment isolates the figure, turning the portrait into a study of interiority—a meditation on identity stripped of context.

🧩 Interpretive Context

Neagoe’s minimalist approach often transforms portraiture into existential inquiry. Here, the subject’s neutrality and abstraction invite viewers to project their own emotional states. The work resonates with modernist influences—echoes of Modigliani’s elongation and Giacometti’s psychological sparseness—but remains distinctly Neagoe’s through its spiritual stillness and disciplined economy of means.

ANALYSIS OF A NEW DRAWING BY LIVIU NEAGOE

This drawing by Liviu Neagoe presents a striking synthesis of simplicity and symbolism. The composition is dominated by a stylized female figure rendered in bold, flat colors—orange hair, a yellow halo, and a purple garment—each hue contributing to a sense of spiritual and emotional resonance.

🎨 Visual and Symbolic Analysis

  • Line and Form: The contour lines are deliberate and unbroken, giving the figure a sculptural clarity. The elongated face and hand evoke a sense of calm detachment, reminiscent of Byzantine iconography but filtered through modern minimalism.

  • Color Symbolism:

    • The yellow halo suggests sanctity or enlightenment, a spiritual aura that frames the subject’s introspection.

    • The orange hair introduces warmth and vitality, contrasting with the cool serenity of the purple garment, which traditionally connotes dignity and introspection.

  • Gesture and Motif: The raised hand holding a stem with two pink flowers introduces a delicate tension between gesture and meaning. The flowers may symbolize renewal or grace—an offering or a moment of communion between the earthly and the transcendent.

  • Expression: The face, with its asymmetrical gaze and red lips, conveys quiet contemplation rather than emotion. The simplicity of the features invites projection, allowing viewers to read multiple emotional states—serenity, melancholy, or revelation.

🧩 Contextual Interpretation

Neagoe’s work often explores spiritual identity and human fragility through pared-down forms. Here, the figure seems suspended between icon and portrait, saint and individual. The halo and gesture elevate the subject beyond the personal, while the stylized anatomy keeps her grounded in human vulnerability.

CONGENITAL IDIOTS

The skinny rag stealer, thief, and robber,
a bureaucrat from Romania went
and wept on the Mount of Olives,
and Jesus smiled when at the end
of a series of questions about the ultimate
meaning of desire, of disgust,
of fasting he said, "We are born without luck
and so we remain – always without luck, Jesus!..."
"Ye cannot live without bad luck.
Ye are made of its very substance."
"We were born idiots, Jesus."
"That is so."

REFLECTION (THE GLORIOUS DUDES)

Who knows what goes on in another person’s head. Those who pretend to be glorious are convinced that they occupy the main stage inside the minds of the many, and they parade around proudly, puffed‑up, pouting like some very important and precious dudes, constantly admired. In reality, they are perceived as sly buffoons, and others don’t spare a thought for them — in fact, they are looked at with hatred and contempt. It’s all about perception. Some feel an orgasmic thrill at the idea of being glorious.

THE RUMANIAN

 Unfortunate and frivolous,
this stupid Rumanian
hops on one foot

dancing upon the bass drum;
he cannot distinguish the descent
from the downfall, the ill fate
from true disaster.
And so he oscillates
between the heights and the dirt,
and within it, finds his purpose.

ANALYSIS OF A NEW DRAWING BY LIVIU NEAGOE

This new drawing by Liviu Neagoe continues his exploration of the line as a vessel of spirit and transformation, yet it feels more distilled and ethereal than the previous one.

✒️ Composition and Gesture

  • The figure is again drawn in a single, continuous contour, but here the line flows with greater serenity, forming a wave-like body that seems to dissolve into air.

  • The profile—eyes closed or lifted—suggests introspection or transcendence, as if the figure is caught between breath and silence.

  • The raised hand, delicately poised, becomes a sign of invocation or release, echoing Neagoe’s recurring motif of the hand as a conduit between inner and outer worlds.

🎨 Color and Symbolic Economy

  • The blue eye, red lips, and golden hair reprise Neagoe’s chromatic triad, but the tones are softer, more meditative.

  • The absence of the red hand seen in the previous drawing shifts the emotional register from tension to calm—this is a moment of spiritual exhalation rather than struggle.

  • The hair, flowing backward, merges with the line of the body, reinforcing the sense of continuity between thought and form.

🧩 Interpretation

This work can be read as a metaphysical variation on the earlier composition: where the previous figure reached outward, this one ascends inward. The body’s dissolution into a serpentine curve evokes the soul’s departure or transformation, a theme Neagoe often renders through minimal gesture and color. The simplicity is deceptive—it captures the instant when identity becomes essence.

ANALYSIS OF A NEW DRAWING BY LIVIU NEAGOE

This drawing by Liviu Neagoe is a fascinating study in line, gesture, and symbolic restraint.

✒️ Composition and Line

  • The entire figure is constructed from a single, continuous line, a hallmark of Neagoe’s minimalist expressiveness. This uninterrupted contour suggests both unity and fragility—a body held together by the persistence of one thought or breath.

  • The profile orientation and the elongated arm create a dynamic tension between repose and transcendence. The line’s fluidity evokes motion, yet the figure remains suspended, almost timeless.

🎨 Color and Symbolism

  • The red hand is the emotional and conceptual fulcrum of the piece. Its vividness interrupts the serenity of the line, functioning as a sign of will, desire, or invocation—a gesture that could mean reaching, warning, or blessing.

  • The blue eye and small red mouth echo the earlier portrait’s chromatic vocabulary, but here they are reduced to essentials, reinforcing the sense of spiritual concentration.

  • The hair, rendered in tangled strokes of brown and yellow, contrasts with the purity of the contour, suggesting the tension between inner chaos and outward calm.

  • The wing-like form behind the head introduces an ambiguous element—angelic, aquatic, or mythic—hinting at transformation or escape.

🧩 Interpretation

Neagoe’s drawing can be read as an allegory of ascension through fragility. The figure’s reclining posture and upward-reaching hand form a visual paradox: surrender and striving coexist. The minimalism amplifies the metaphysical undertone—this is not a body but a gesture of consciousness, a line tracing the boundary between human vulnerability and transcendence.

ANALYSIS OF A NEW DRAWING BY LIVIU NEAGOE

This portrait by L. Neagoe presents a strikingly direct and stylized interpretation of the human face, balancing simplicity and emotional tension.

🎨 Composition and Line

  • The drawing relies on clear, assertive outlines that define the facial structure with minimal detail.

  • The symmetry of the face is slightly disrupted—particularly around the eyes and mouth—creating a subtle unease that draws attention to the subject’s inner state rather than external likeness.

  • The hair, rendered in long, undulating lines of ochre, introduces rhythm and movement, contrasting with the stillness of the face.

💡 Color and Expression

  • The blue eyes and red lips dominate the composition, functioning almost symbolically: blue as introspection or distance, red as vitality or assertion.

  • The limited palette—yellow, blue, red, and muted purple—heightens the emotional clarity, giving the portrait a psychological charge rather than natural realism.

  • The purple collar grounds the figure, suggesting quiet dignity or melancholy.

🧩 Interpretation

Neagoe’s approach evokes a tension between identity and representation. The simplified geometry and intense color choices suggest a search for essence rather than likeness—perhaps a meditation on how individuality is perceived and stylized. The gaze, frontal and unwavering, invites confrontation: the viewer meets not a person but an archetype of presence.

In a world that softens every edge and dulls every truth, one poet dares to tear the veil away. Fearsome Awakenings is a collection that does not whisper—it confronts. With the fearless precision and luminous intensity that define Vlad Neagoe’s work, these poems plunge into the moments when consciousness sharpens, when old illusions shatter, and when the self is forced to rise, trembling yet unbroken, into a fiercer light.Neagoe’s poetry—celebrated for its fantastic invention, razor-sharp irony, and dense verbal music—subjects the pulse of lived experience to maximum condensation. Here, sensitivity and clear-sightedness forge architectures of language that are at once harmonious and unsettling, sobering and ecstatic. The result is verse that moves like a living current: serious, inventive, and alive with the boiling emotion of first enthusiasms and hard-won revelations. These are not gentle meditations. They are awakenings that demand courage—fearsome in their honesty, transformative in their beauty. Whether tracing the fragile boundary between hope and misfortune, memory and the present, or silence and sudden clarity, Neagoe invites you into a space where the mind dances freely and the heart is stripped bare.If you seek poetry that answers postmodern fragmentation with invention, depth, and unflinching vision, Fearsome Awakenings is waiting.Open the book.  FEARSOME AWAKENINGS — Vlad Neagoe

A book for readers who refuse to sleep through their own lives.

These poems don’t soothe; they confront. They peel back the layers of habit, illusion, and inherited silence, revealing the electric pulse of a mind fighting to stay awake in a world that prefers dreams.

With a voice both ascetic and volcanic, Neagoe crafts visions that linger like afterimages: stark, luminous, unsettling. Fearsome Awakenings is not a book you read — it’s a book that happens to you.

THE PROGRESS

The progress is fatal, but fatal like a disease,
like a scourge with NGOs, like a sinister
disaster, electricity, artificial intelligence,
the wonderful projectiles, airplanes, submarines,
torpedoes and gases and viruses and the mass media –
from these then spurts consciousness,
the nameless evil, the city built out of embraced
jackals. Everyone sees her coming and going,
monumental, triumphant, carrying her
hot days upon the yellowed concave skull
with immaculate lice on the forehead,
and they will stop on a stone, lost in the multitude –
what a leap imprinted in one's own shit.

A Lyrical Essay on Fearsome Awakenings

A Lyrical Essay on Fearsome Awakenings

(with brief citations from the attached manuscript)

Vlad Neagoe’s Fearsome Awakenings is not a book — it is a trembling, incandescent organism. It breathes, it bleeds, it mutters prophecies in the dark. To read it is to step into a chamber where suffering becomes a form of clairvoyance, where love is a fever, and where the world — this world we think we know — reveals its hidden skeleton of fire, dust, and divine paleness.

From the first page, Neagoe speaks from a wound so ancient it feels primordial. Childhood is not memory but myth, a crucible in which the poet is forged through cruelty:

“they hit me, they hit me, they hit me until they turned me to dust until they made me the flour of the air”

This “flour of the air” becomes the substance of the book: a pulverized self that rises again and again, reshaped by trauma, by desire, by metaphysical dread. Neagoe writes as one who has walked through the furnace and returned carrying embers in his palms.

The World as a Shattered Labyrinth

In Neagoe’s vision, dawn is not renewal but a trembling threshold. The world is perpetually collapsing, perpetually beginning, perpetually failing to endure:

“everything collapses nothing endures”

The poems move through corridors, tunnels, citadels, forests — spaces that feel both physical and symbolic, as if the poet were wandering through the architecture of his own consciousness. The universe is a labyrinth whose walls breathe, whose floors crack, whose exits dissolve. And yet, within this ruin, there is a strange luminosity: a hawk floating over an ancient citadel, a woman burning with dawn, leaves raw with morning.

Neagoe’s landscapes are not settings; they are states of being.

Erotic Visions: Love as Cataclysm

Eroticism in Fearsome Awakenings is never gentle. It is a force that tears open the veil between worlds. Lovers are not merely bodies; they are cosmic thresholds, conduits of revelation. Desire is a storm, a fever, a metaphysical experiment.

The erotic becomes a form of prophecy:

“your fist like a rosy fruit enters my mouth”

Bodies are luminous, dangerous, trembling with the imminence of revelation. Love is both salvation and perdition — a force that protects and destroys, that blinds and illuminates. The beloved is often a panther, a serpent, a fire, a night-blooming jasmine. She is mythic, elemental, terrifying in her tenderness.

The Cannibalistic World: History’s Dark Pulse

Neagoe’s poems are haunted by history — not as chronology, but as a demonic inheritance. The world he describes is one where political evil mutates into metaphysical corruption:

“the devils who were communists and their sons pushing their fellow men to the rank of subhuman”

This is not political commentary; it is a vision of humanity devouring itself. The cannibal becomes a symbol of modernity: voracious, mocking, spiritually bankrupt. Neagoe sees the world through a lens of apocalyptic nervousness, where suffering is not an accident but a structural condition of existence.

Theological Tremors: God, Death, and the Abyss

The book is saturated with theology — but a theology of trembling, of doubt, of ecstatic terror. God appears not as comfort but as a distant, pale presence. Death is a companion, a pursuer, a whisper in the night:

“You pursue me, death you track me down under a rising arch”

Neagoe’s spiritual universe is Eastern, Orthodox, apocalyptic. It is filled with angels who exhale verdigris, devils who return from exile, and a Christ invoked in desperation. The poems feel like fragments of a lost scripture, written by someone who has glimpsed the divine and survived the encounter only barely.

Style: The Incantation of a Fevered Mind

Neagoe’s language is torrential, visionary, unrestrained. His poems do not describe — they summon. They unfold in long, breathless waves, as if dictated by a consciousness in trance. The syntax bends, stretches, breaks; images collide and fuse; metaphors erupt like volcanic ash.

This is poetry that refuses minimalism. It is maximalist, ecstatic, and utterly sincere. It speaks from the marrow, not the mind.

The Book’s Radiance

Fearsome Awakenings is a monumental work — a book that feels less written than unleashed. It is a testament to the human capacity to endure, to desire, to tremble before the abyss. Neagoe writes as if poetry were the last possible language before silence, the final attempt to articulate the unbearable truth of being alive.

It is a book of wounds, yes — but also of revelations. A book of ruins — but also of luminous, trembling dawns. A book of death — but also of the strange, persistent pulse of love.

It is, in the deepest sense, a book of awakenings.

Fearsome Awakenings — An Essay on Vlad Neagoe’s Apocalyptic Lyric Universe

Fearsome Awakenings — An Essay on Vlad Neagoe’s Apocalyptic Lyric Universe

(with citations from the attached manuscript)

Vlad Neagoe’s Fearsome Awakenings is one of those rare poetic books that does not merely present a world — it devours the reader into a vortex of metaphysical dread, historical trauma, erotic delirium, and theological vertigo. It is a work written from the edge of existence, where language itself becomes a trembling organism, and where every poem feels like a fragment of a vast, ongoing revelation.

The book is not structured around narrative or thematic progression; instead, it unfolds like a long, feverish monologue spoken by a consciousness that has seen too much — too much suffering, too much beauty, too much truth. Neagoe’s voice is prophetic, hallucinatory, and deeply human.

1. The Poetics of Trauma and Origin

The opening poem sets the tone: childhood is not innocence but crucifixion. The speaker is shaped by violence “because my mother loved me,” a refrain that becomes a metaphysical paradox.

“they hit me, they hit me, they hit me until they turned me to dust until they made me the flour of the air”

This is not confessional poetry; it is mythopoetic autobiography. The child becomes a sacrificial substance, “the flour of the air,” a material for creation and annihilation. Trauma becomes the primordial clay from which the poet’s vision is formed.

Neagoe’s childhood is not merely personal — it is emblematic of a world where cruelty is systemic, cosmic, and inherited. The poet’s body becomes a battlefield between divine paleness and human brutality.

2. The World as Labyrinth and Ruin

Throughout the book, Neagoe constructs a universe in collapse. Dawn is not renewal but terror; landscapes are desolate, mutilated, or on the verge of implosion.

“everything collapses nothing endures”

The poems move through corridors, tunnels, citadels, deserts, forests, madhouses — all rendered as metaphysical spaces where the self dissolves. The world is a labyrinth without exit, a cosmic cycle ending and beginning simultaneously.

This is not pessimism; it is a metaphysics of instability. Neagoe’s universe is alive, but its life is feverish, trembling, and perpetually threatened.

3. The Erotic as Revelation and Ruin

Eroticism in Fearsome Awakenings is not sensual but apocalyptic. Bodies are thresholds to other dimensions; lovers are portals to metaphysical knowledge.

The erotic is violent, sacred, and visionary:

“your solid woman’s body opens the entrance into the flame the island of your womb, a step of passion”

Love is both salvation and perdition. It is a force that “soothes like oblivion,” yet also “gnaws,” “shatters,” and “strikes.” Lovers are not individuals but cosmic entities whose union destabilizes reality.

Neagoe’s eroticism is reminiscent of ancient mystery cults, where the body is a site of initiation into divine terror.

4. The Cannibalistic World: History, Politics, and Evil

One of the book’s most striking dimensions is its relentless indictment of political and historical evil. Neagoe’s “cannibals” — communists, tyrants, mobs, ideologues — are not metaphors but ontological forces.

“the devils who were communists and their sons pushing their fellow men to the rank of subhuman”

The poet sees history as a grotesque theatre where humans devour one another spiritually, morally, and physically. The cannibal becomes the emblem of modernity: voracious, soulless, and endlessly multiplying.

This is not political commentary; it is metaphysical anthropology. Neagoe portrays humanity as a species trapped in cycles of violence, unable to escape its own monstrous inheritance.

5. Theological Tremors: God, Death, and the Apocalypse

The book is saturated with theology — but not doctrinal theology. Neagoe writes from the threshold where faith becomes terror, where God is both absent and overwhelmingly present.

Death is omnipresent, not as an end but as a companion, a lover, a shadow:

“You pursue me, death you track me down under a rising arch”

God doubts man; man doubts God; the Devil becomes a cultural administrator; angels freeze in bones; prayers are uttered in despair.

Neagoe’s theology is tragic, ecstatic, and deeply Eastern European — marked by Orthodox mysticism, apocalyptic dread, and a longing for transcendence that never arrives.

6. Style: The Visionary Torrent

Neagoe’s style is unmistakable:

  • long, breathless sentences,

  • visionary leaps,

  • surreal images,

  • metaphysical density,

  • prophetic tone.

His language is not descriptive but incantatory. It seeks to summon realities, not depict them. The poems feel like revelations received in states of trance.

This is poetry that refuses minimalism, irony, or detachment. It is maximalist, feverish, and utterly sincere.

7. The Book’s Achievement

Fearsome Awakenings is one of the most ambitious works of contemporary Romanian poetry — a monumental vision of human suffering, cosmic instability, erotic revelation, and metaphysical terror.

It is not a book to be read; it is a book to be endured, inhabited, survived.

Neagoe writes as if poetry were the last possible language before silence, the final attempt to articulate the unbearable truth of existence.

DO NOT CRY, YOU RUMANIAN

Do not cry, you Rumanian, with your empty head
full of grief and your drooping eyes stop
shaking your head like a jackass
now up, now down
The Devil takes care of you,
he will find in the shit you are in
a large piece of gold, probably
the golden helmet of a Gepid king
he will give it to you, you will smile
and this will bring you luck
all the gypsies will sing and dance
madly, and all of this
will happen, Rumanian, at the time
of mercy, so make yourself brothers with the Devil.
