America has come like a deluge
into this space full of dogs
and of flabbergasted chimpanzees ‒
American movies, American architecture
American shops, American songs
even Christ in a cubist stained glass
window reminds us of a component
in a complicated machine. You ask
yourself from whence this huge wave
has come over this wasteland.
Now the monkeys are afraid of the daybreak.
