The syphilis and Stalin stuck him
into the lunatic asylum all day long
he was going in a wheelchair down
the alleys in the park of the clinic,
the nurse who pushed the wheelchair
was listening to his lamentations and
to his ideas talkative, she flattered him
with “comrade brilliant leader” but
she shut her mouth when Lenin broke
forth in the moments of lucidity.
“Listen, comradess, I was a voice
above the sea of rebellious people and
this voice could belong to anyone else...
one million Robespierres were howling
inside me: Terror! Terror! Terror! But
if it had been the voice of L. N. Tolstoy,
it would have remained only his, it could
not have been changed by anybody,
it had been only his, and only his, voice
what a giant! I was mad from the beginning:
the horde of rabid Genghis Khans were
constantly cabling me, ‘Kill them all!’”
His head fell to his chest he howled
once and kicked the bucket. Performing
the autopsy the doctors discovered
an immense void in between his cerebral
spheres and from there a leftover of howl
gushed forth.
